NATIONAL HUMAN TRAFFICKING AWARENESS DAY

Officers are renewing their efforts to crackdown on human trafficking and exploitation to mark the national awareness day today (Sunday 11 January).

Our public protection unit (PPU) works tirelessly to identify vulnerable people, including adults and children, as well as key locations, based on covert work and intelligence gathering as part of dedicated operations.

Data shows that in 2024, we received 79 reports of suspected modern slavery and human trafficking, down from 108 reports the previous year and 119 in 2022.

Out of these 79 reports, 41 of those reports involved adult victims and 37 reports involved child victims.

Across Staffordshire, our PPU officers work with both adults and children to prevent and protect them from exploitation, which can often be linked to major and organised crime…
